Hochwertige Stoffe sorgen für Akzente. Gesamtkunstwerk. T hese brioches are my downfall,« jokes hotelier Helena Ramsbacher, »we make them fresh every day in our hotel bakery in the ›Lemongarden‹.« We actually wanted to talk about the design philosophy of her four boutique hotels »Lemongarden» in Croatia, »Schloss Seefels« on Lake Wörthersee, »Knappenhof« in Reichenau an der Rax and »Tyrol« in the heart of Vienna, but suddenly we find ourselves talking about homemade jams, delicious lemon ice cream and fresh water from the hotel's own spring. For others, design may stop at fine cutlery, but for the art-loving hotelier, it is about much more. Her hotels are total works of art, where the colours and patterns of the fabrics on the sofas match the lemon trees in the garden. The croissants are just as lovingly curated as the impressive art collection on the walls. Each hotel is unique, and yet all four have something in common: they were not designed on the drawing board. They don't cater to a run-of-the-mill taste of bland grey and beige. Hotels need an aura, a special atmosphere to make you feel at home straight away,« says Ramsbacher. EXTENDED LIVING ROOM There is a good chance that you will find Ramsbacher in one of her hotels. She even lives there at times. In winter, she takes a short holiday, she emphasises, but in summer her own hotels are simply too nice to go on holiday. The magnificent buildings are the hostess's extended living room. Art and design are present everywhere in a relaxed, natural way. They inspire without you having to make an effort. Take »Schloss Seefels«, which scores points for its perfect location directly on Lake Wörthersee alone. But the furnishings also read like a who's who of the interior design scene: the 67 light-flooded rooms and suites feature sofas by Bielefelder Werkstätten, Wittmann, high-quality beds by Tréca and ornate lamps made of Murano glass. Fabrics and wallpaper by Christian Lacroix, Casamance, Pierre Frey and Manuel Canovas have been used. The food is served on special porcelain from the Augarten manufactory, which was specially designed for »Schloss Seefels«. To put it in the language of fashion, where many hotels are merely ready-to-wear, here the emphasis is on haute couture. Everything is customised, nothing is off the peg. At the »Tyrol«, the day also starts with elegant tableware, the gold cutlery is from Pinti 1929 and the mouth-blown glasses are from Lobmeyr. And, of course, cloth napkins are provided. POP-ART HIGHLIGHTS The art on the walls benefits from the strong colour scheme of the fur- <
